The New Look
When
have you been to the OGS campus?
I invite you
to come for an afternoon visit or reserve a room in the
lodge for an overnight stay. This newsletter is filled
with information about planned activities that encourage
a return to campus in the next few months. You choose
the best time – just remember you are always welcome!
There is a new look to greet you.
Both the
operations building and the lodge have new roofs.
Building materials recognized by the EPA as
environmentally friendly and energy efficient combine
good stewardship with good looks. Oswald Garagorry, a
student from Colorado, is one of a growing number of
work-study students who provided needed skills in
exchange for tuition. OGS and Oswald are both blessed
by this arrangement. Come see the campus improvements.
There is a new look on the inside of the operations
building as well.
The Board of
Regents recently clarified job descriptions for the
Chancellor and the President/CEO. Dr. Green requested
and was granted a sabbatical for a year. He has moved
his office to his house. Different office assignments
and job descriptions have changed the faces in many
locations in the operations building. The constant is
the smiling faces and welcoming handshakes you will
receive when you step inside. Be assured, too, that
there is no change in the core values or mission of the
school.
Oxford Graduate School reaches out to the community
Join the town
of Dayton and come to the OGS campus on Tuesday, May 15th
for community networking. OGS will host the monthly
“After Hours” gathering of the Rhea County Chamber of
Commerce. Members of the local Chamber of Commerce
use the monthly event to showcase local establishments.
OGS has lots to share in order to inform the community
of the school’s mission and operational methods. Hosts
and hostesses are needed for the event.
If you can come to campus on the afternoon of May 15th
please contact Dr. Kathy Lettieri at
klettieri@aol.com or me
rtucker@oxnetedu.org.
Plans are
underway to encourage many people to come to OGS for
“Music on the Mountain” a series of musical
activities throughout the summer. The purpose is many
faceted – to reach out to the community, to provide a
venture for musicians, to sponsor a fun evening, and to
entertain prospective students and donors. Want to have
an active role in planning or producing these events?
Please contact Mrs. Margaret Hejhal at
mhejhal@comcast.com or me
rtucker@oxnetedu.org. Your responses will be
helpful in continuing plans.
Oxford Graduate School connects students and alumni
Several students came to campus recently for a
re-start core.
Students
participated in review sessions and received individual
tutoring to assist them in returning to their degree
programs. If you are interested in coming for a
re-start core, please email Dean Reynolds
ereynolds@oxnetedu.org or me
rtucker@oxnetedu.org. The date for the next
re-start core will be set to accommodate the needs of
those planning to attend.
Congregation and the Society of Scholars Forum
is the
annual time scheduled for coming to the campus to
conduct Congregation business and for sharing research.
This year the meetings will be held on Friday and
Saturday, June 22 and 23. More information will be sent
concerning the agenda for the weekend. Please add these
dates to your summer schedule. Contact Dr. Helen Morgan
hmorgan@oxnetedu.org
if you have a research paper to submit for advancement
in the Society of Scholars or Dr. Glenn Liebig
ghliebig@volstate.net
if you have suggestions for the Congregation meeting.
This is a good time to inform the school of your plans
to return to campus for academic advancement or
assistance during the summer term.
Dean Reynolds will be contacting all students to
encourage return to campus during the summer months to
participate in cores sessions, to receive tutorial
assistance, and to complete course work. Scheduled
Core sessions are:
June 11-15 Program
Orientation Workshop/Core 1 and Core 3
June 18-22 Core 2 and Core 4
July 9-3 Program Orientation
Workshop/Core 1 and Core 5
July 16-20 Core 2 and Core 6
Students are encouraged to use your library key to use
the resources available on campus at any time. If you
need faculty assistance, please contact that person
before coming to campus. Contact Mrs. Helen Gadd,
receptionist,
hgadd@oxnetedu.org to make your reservations for a
lodge room or for shuttle service.
Come to campus to join the caravan or meet the OGS
contingency at the Library of Congress.
The summer reading and research week at LOC is July 23 -
27.
It is an academic experience that many have enjoyed
repeatedly. Contact Mrs. Gail Green at
ggreen@oxnetedu.org to make reservations for the
trip.
No newsletter from me would be complete without the
latest news on accreditation.
OGS is on schedule for the planned November 2008 full
accreditation recognition. A preliminary visit by
our TRACS consultation, Dr. Jeff McCann and the
financial consultant, Dr. Don Leslie, is expected in May
2007. The on-site visit by the review team is being
rescheduled for September 2008. The area of greatest
difficulty with the accreditation process is finances.
Additional money must be on hand to meet the
accreditation standards.
Contributions are needed now!
Will you contribute or provide suggestions for possible
sources of funds? One of the best ways to contribute to OGS is to recruit a new student whose tuition will
continue your contribution over the next few years.
Much of this
newsletter has discussed opportunities for coming to the
campus. Click here to access the
2007 Calendar with
dates of additional activities. I encourage you to
physically come. Those of you who cannot come to Dayton
can still be connected to OGS by the heartstrings.
My desire is to re-engage or continue to engage each of
you in the work of Oxford Graduate School. Thank
you for your recent efforts in advancing the school.
You are
important to the future and success of OGS!
Warmly,
Rebecca
